Book review: MATED TO THE WEREWOLF KING by Alena Des

Title: Mated To The Werewolf King
Author: Alena Des
Category/Genre: Adult Paranormal
My Star Rating: 3/5

Goodreads Blurb:
Dive into a universe filled with magical creatures, from demons, "ifrits", and werewolves to nymphs, witches, and superpowers-wielding entities. A must for fantasy and romance readers alike!

When Annabelle discovers that she is not the true daughter of the Alpha in her pack, her world, as she knows it, comes crashing down and she finds herself running to hide from the tyrannical Demon Lord who is hellbent on finding her.

Seeking protection, she flees to the court of the Werewolf King. He’s arrogant, stubborn and discerning of her very being, but willing to defend her… for now.

Will the Werewolf King yield to the Demon Lord’s ultimatum and give her to the enemy or will she be the cause of a looming war between the two species?

More importantly, what does the Demon Lord want with Belle? She’s only a werewolf… isn’t she?

My Review:

Let's face it: shifters have been done to death.  That said, I still love them, and search the shelves (digital and physical) for some kind of new take on the genre.  Usually, I come away disappointed, but not this time.  The plot and story-line were fresh, putting an intriguing spin on the whole werewolves thing by weaving it in with so many other paranormal worlds I couldn't possibly list them all.  From start to finish, this was a fast-paced, thrilling read.  Unfortunately, I had a difficult time staying focused on the fabulous story because of the writing style.  I found the descriptions to be underdeveloped, the dialogue felt forced, and the relationships didn't really form - they were just there.  Keith was a tad too-alpha for me, bordering on the side of controlling and narcissistic.  This book has so much potential! I just needed it to be cleaner.
